Featured Case Studies
National Malaria Commodity Manufacturing Assessment
The Challenge
Nigeria’s malaria prevention programme needed an independent, rigorous assessment of local long-lasting insecticidal net (LLIN) and related commodity manufacturing capacity — to understand whether, and how, the country could shift toward regional production.
Our Approach
ASF led stakeholder mapping across 15+ national/international organizations, conducted data collection across six strategic states, completed manufacturer site assessments, and produced an Institutional Capacity Assessment, Value Chain Mapping, Financial Landscape Analysis, and Capacity Building Plan.
The Outcome
Delivered to client commendation (₦280M+ value), with the client specifically requesting ASF’s recommendations for continued engagement and establishing ASF’s credibility for further government and donor-funded assessment work.
Primary Healthcare Supply Chain Assessment (SWAp)
The Challenge
CHAI and the World Bank needed ground-truth visibility into how primary healthcare commodities move and where they stall across a representative set of 8 Nigerian states, to inform the design of the Direct Results Financing (DRF) mechanism.
Our Approach
ASF’s core team and a network of state-level consultants conducted Key Informant Interviews using a purpose-built digital data collection tool, aggregating findings into a full technical report with proposed model adjustments to the DRF and a private-sector integration pathway.
The Outcome
Closed with strong client commendation from CHAI’s procurement and SWAp leadership, and directly informed ASF’s selection to present alongside a joint UNITAID/Roll Back Malaria delegation during their subsequent Nigeria mission.
Multi-Country Supply Chain Assessment (LEN)
The Challenge
A Gates Foundation-backed initiative needed rapid, standardized supply chain assessments run simultaneously across five countries (Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Lesotho, Eswatini) with widely varying health system maturity — with results needed on a compressed analysis timeline.
Our Approach
ASF mobilized country-level consultants in all five markets within weeks of signing, launching concurrent fieldwork on a single start date with centralized data management and oversight.
The Outcome
By project midpoint, delivery tracked comfortably ahead of the funder’s analysis deadline across every country, with the strongest-performing markets already substantially complete.
Continental Malaria Market Access Advocacy
The Challenge
RBM needed an evidence-based advocacy strategy addressing local and regional manufacturing of malaria commodities covering both WHO-prequalified and non-prequalified manufacturers to inform its Big Push market-shaping strategy.
Our Approach
ASF developed a comprehensive white paper analyzing market archetypes across the malaria commodity value chain, comparing current versus ideal market states, and providing evidence-based recommendations for improving manufacturer access and market positioning.
The Outcome
Positioned ASF as a trusted technical advisor to RBM on manufacturing and market access issues — a relationship that has continued through multiple contract extensions.
